After graduating from Ankara Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Altınbaş completed his psychiatry residency at Istanbul Bakırköy Research and Training Hospital for Psychiatry, Neurology, and Neurosurgery. Until 2012, he served as a consultant psychiatrist at the Raşit Tahsin Mood Clinic within the same hospital. Dr. Altınbaş worked at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University from 2012 to 2017 and at Selçuk University from 2017 to 2023. He attained the rank of professor in 2020 and left his position at Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry in June 2023, opting to pursue independent academic activities.

Dr. Altınbaş gained international experience, serving as a Short Term Fellow at Cardiff University in the UK in 2009, an Academic Visitor at Mayo Mood Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA in 2010, and a Research Fellow at Harvard University McLean Hospital in Boston, USA, in 2014-2015. He completed his PhD at Maastricht University between 2016- with a thesis titled "Reconstructing The Diagnostic Framework of Bipolarity." Dr. Altınbaş worked as a visiting academic at the LMU Klinikum Institute for Psychiatric Phenomic and Genomic in Munich, Germany in 2022.

His research interests encompass mixed depression, prediction of treatment response in bipolar disorders, affective temperament, and mood disorders; neurobiology of mood disorders (inflammation and genetics); and the development of new technologies for longitudinal assessments in psychiatry.
